Beach Education Student Comment

THIS POST IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Room 7 students were asked to write opinions on their Beach Education experience for 2011. They answered four different questions. Here is a selection of their responses after they were each asked to publish one of their answers on our Class Blog.

QUESTION 1:
Explain what you think about the amount of time spent on each activity at Beach Education.

I think we should have more time in the water, and a bit less in the building, because I think that surf life saving is more in water than in a building.....James

I think it was a reasonable amount of time on each activity except, more time on the beach.....Steven

I think we spent too much time sitting down because some of the kids were starting to get restless. They could have got to the point quicker rather than making it drawn out.....Nathan

I think we spend to much time on land than in the water its called beach Ed so we should spend more time in the water.....CalebS

I think we need more time out on the beach than inside, because we were talking and watching video's for most of the day.How about we do more things outside because we already know the things we're doing inside so it's a waste of time, and it's boring.....Angie

QUESTION 2:
In what way do you think that the activities at Beach Education could be improved for greater learning ?

I think the time on each activity was kind of unfair, because I thought we would have a longer time swimming. How about next time we do more swimming activities because we have already learn't about rips etc.....Lauren

I think they should tell us more about how to recognise a rip because it could easily happen that someone gets caught in one and gets washed out to sea like me.How about they show us in the tower or on the beach how to recognise a rip so when you're alone on the beach that you can see where you can swim and where not.....Johanna

I think that for each year that we go to Beach Ed don't tell us the same thing all everytime because it gets a bit boring so how about telling us newer things like what you learnt while being a lifesaver.....Paige

QUESTION 3:

What do you think was the most valuable learning you got at Beach Education and why ?

I think that learning to recognise RIPS in the surf and looking for some from the Surf Club Tower was a very powerful learning experience.....Mr McA

I think the rip so we now where the rips are so we dont get one andthe frist aid so if some one get in trouble.....max

I thought that in the medical room was the most valuable learning because I learn't things that I didn't know before.....Jake

QUESTION 4:
How do you feel about having Beach Education every second year while you are a student at Mangorei School.

I think it is good but its gets quite boring because its always the same. How about every second year they do different activities every second year so its fun every second year?.....Tiana

I think they should have it every 3rd year because every 2nd year is to much.

How about they do it every 3rd year?.....Nicole

I think that it is little to much because we do the same things every time , how about we do it every second year but change the activities?.....Maya

I think it's not very good because you learn the same thing over and over 4 times and by the time you get to year 8 your not listening at all. How about we have it every 3 years.....Portia

Govett Brewster Art Gallery

On Friday 25 February our class travelled to the Govett Brewster Art Gallery to study an exhibition titled "POINTS OF CONTACT" featuring sculpture works by Jim Allen and kinetic art by Len Lye.

Chris then asked us to create our own transparent sculptures before adding coloured light.
