Road Sealing

On the 23rd of September Nick, Simon and I were watching the road sealing outside our school. The first step was to paint the area with tar and the road worker only had a hose. Then they had to cover the road with stones getting rolled out of a truck over two times. They started further down the road and sprayed tar out of a truck this time. The tar was so hot at 170 degrees celsius they covered the tar over with stones down the road and it got rolled over with roller. It was a cool experience and i was supprised about how hot the tar was but it was probably  nesisery for it to set.

On the 23rd of September after lunch a tar truck came down the road and started spraying tar which was 170c and then one more truck came along and stones were falling out of the back of the other truck so thats that.

RANFURLY SHIELD

On Thursday the 22nd of September the Ranfurly Shield came to Mangorei School. Every class got called up by the runners to get their photo taken with the Shield as well as a close up look at the Shield. Did you know the Shield was also designed as a trophy for Soccer, not rugby. This was because the picture in the middle was a soccer ball. The picture was changed by adding goal posts on the soccer goal that made the picture look like a rugby scene. The Ranfurly Shield also known as the Log o’ Wood was first played for in 1904. In 1901 the Governor of New Zealand , the Earl of Ranfurly said that we would present a cup to the rugby union when it actually turned out to be a shield.
