FOREST LAKES CAMP DAY 1.
Monday 11 April.

Mr Poulgrain rounded us up and got us ready to go on the Bus at school. Everyone got ready for the long bus ride to Forest Lakes. We got split into our groups for sound off and buses. It was a very boring bus ride with lots of talking.....Max

We arrived at Virginia Lake in Wanganui and had morning tea and lunch at the same time so we didn't have to stop twice. We sat on the hills and benches and looked at the lake. After we had finished eating we had a tour around the lake that took about 30mins then we did a sound off and all got on the bus to travel to Levin and the turn off to Forest Lakes....Logan

We arrived at Forest Lakes at 2:40pm and Mr Poulgrain got us off the buses and we got told where our cabins were. Our first activity was discovering where the places and activities were around the camp. We got to do recreation time with things like; flying fox over the lake, mini golf, bowling, swimming in the pool that was freezing, shooting BB guns, water slide into the lake, mud slide ......Steven.

Dinner time and Mr Poulgrain sent us to the dinning room. It was loud! We got called up by table groups by Mrs Wichman. For dinner we had fish, chips and salad with dessert of Mousse with lime jelly and fruit salad. The dinner was delicious.
After dinner we played spotlight. We had to hide somewhere around the camp in the dark and the parents would come look for us. We had 15mins to hide out.....Conrad

FOREST LAKES CAMP DAY 2.
Tuesday 12 April.

Today at Forest Lakes camp I did abseiling it ruled!!!! It was so SCARY doing the abseiling because I felt like I was going to fall.
I also did the mud slide and that was disgusting  I hated the water slide because the first time I killed my leg then the second time I killed my back  : ( Tomorrow I'm going to Wellington I will go to Te Papa then on Thursday I will do horse riding I would like to say a special thanks to Mr Poulgrain, Mrs Wichman, Mr McA, Mr Greer
WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!!!.....Nicole

Today I was so excited and scared because group A did abseiling first ( for the people who don't how don't know what abseiling is it's when you jump off a really tall cliff on a rope ) I was so scared! But Angie was really brave and climbed up the wall and down.  Later we did the confidence course and I went first.  I liked the part where we had to jump from big steps to smaller ones.  After that we did archery and I got three hits on the target then it was afternoon tea time.  Horse riding was next and I was scared because I had only been on a horse three times.  When we were on the course the leader horse started to trot and I felt like I was going to fall off because my horse was shaking its head around.  It was a great day and I wish we could have more of them.....Lauren

FOREST LAKES CAMP DAY 3.
Wednesday 13 April.

Hi there Room 7. I am sitting here at Capital E Studios in Wellington at 4:20pm using the free internet on our laptop while some of the Year 7s from our class make 3D movies on the computers in the Sound Studio. I am going to go downstairs shortly and see how our other class members are going making the TV news show. We will post todays report later tonight. After we finish all our tech work here at Capital E we will across the road and into the middle of the city for McDonalds before the bus ride back to Forest Lakes. We have seen the 9 original copies of the Treaty today.....Mr McA

Angie was going to write todays report but we have now got back to camp a little late so she has gone to bed. Watch this space on Thursday.
Here is Angie's Wednesday report that she compiled on our laptop while on the Bus heading home on Friday. Thanks Angie!!
On our trip to Wellington we had to get up at 6:00 to be ready on time to catch the train. The train got crowded and on most seats there were 3 people. It was bumpy and we went through lots of dark, loud tunnels. When the train stopped we met up at a New World supermarket. Then we went to the Beehive, a lady showed us around. We went in lots of rooms and went up lots of stairs!!!. We went in an old library that had millions of books stored underground in case there was a fire. We meet a real MP [Member of Parliament].We had lunch on the steps of the Parliament then Mr McAllister took lots of photos!!.Then we went to Archives NZ and saw the real Treaty of Waitangi and the petition. that gave the women the right to be able to vote for things!!! [YAY!!!] The room was full of security cameras. The door was metal with a big wheel on the front like a giant safe. We were going to go to Te Papa and go in the earthquake house and in the gift shop but it got too late. Then we went to Capital E and got split in 2 groups.1 group did things with computers and 1 group made a TV show!! [you can watch them on our class Blog] Then we swapped over. Then we went to a food court to get dinner, almost everyone got McDonalds. Then we went back to Forest Lakes on the bus.....Angie

Please watch this News Report from Cereal News that Mangorei Group 2 made this afternoon at Capital E.

  1. The highlight of the Forest lakes camp for me was the visit to the Constitution Room at Archives NZ. It was a special feeling standing looking at the original Treaty that was on the table at Waitangi being signed way back in 1840.

A challenge for me was keeping up with all the Room 7 students and trying to get photos of you all in action.

The students impressed me with their excellent supportive behaviour. The way they treated each other. The parent helpers impressed me with the way they really encouraged and supported all students at camp. Mr Poulgrain and Mrs wichman impressed me with the way they interacted with all the students no matter how tired they got !

I learnt how much strength and personal mana our students got when they overcame personal fears.

Forest Lakes and the trip to Wellington are amazing learning experiences and super fun !!!

  6. The highlight for me was going to see the real treaty and seeing Hone Hekes signature on it because it was like I was there when he signed it.The other cool thing is seeing that huge door so no one could get in .It was huge"said max"it was 3 meters high and 1 meter long.

The challenge for me was staying on the bus for so long doing nothing it was so boring when we were going back to Mangorei school.

The person who impressed me was Rosie because she really didn't what to go down the abseiling because she was so afraid of the height. She did it 3 times in a row.

and making the show and your own world because I've never done any of that before.

A challenge was having enough energy to do everything that week, because I got sore muscles and really tired.

Teachers and parents impressed me for keeping up with us and Mr Poulgrain and Mrs Wichman for organizing everything. My dad impressed me because he had a go at everything except the flying fox.

A challenge for me was working in with my cabin and getting on with everybody because I was tired.

The parents impressed me by always helping where they were needed. They supported their group when the students didn't want to do something.
